HOW TOOTH CHARMS ARE APPLIED

With these simple steps, you can have your own tooth gem set in place to brighten your smile.

The application process is straightforward and does not involve drilling.

  • The natural tooth is cleaned and prepared for application.

  • Bonding materials are applied to the selected area.

  • Your chosen crystal or gold charm is positioned and secured.

  • An LED curing light is used to set the bonding materials.

Your technician will review aftercare instructions with you before you leave.

Are Tooth GemS for everyone?

You must be 18+ to get a tooth gem or under 18 with parental consent. Your parent/guardian and proper identification must be present. Tooth gems cannot be applied to any artificial tooth surface such as crowns, caps, veneers or dentures.

Tooth Gems are not recommended if you are currently using a clear plastic retainer (Invisalign, Smile Direct) as it will not fit properly over the charm. If you are using a wire type retainer, we encourage you to bring it to your appointment so that we can ensure the gem is placed where it won’t interfere with it.

tooth gem AFTERCARE

Proper aftercare and good oral hygiene are important for maintaining your tooth charm and protecting your teeth.

  • Do not pick at or play with your new tooth gem!

  • Do not eat or drink anything other than water for the first 2 hours.

  • Avoid hard foods, candies, and alcohol for the first 12 hours.

  • Do not brush directly over the gem for the first 12 hours.

  • Do not use an electric toothbrush directly over the charm for the first 48 hours.

  • After 48 hours, resume your regular oral hygiene routine, brushing gently around the charm.

TOOTH GEMS & TOOTH CHARMS FAQ

What are tooth gems and tooth charms?

Tooth gems and tooth charms are decorative crystals or pieces of jewelry bonded to the surface of natural teeth for cosmetic purposes. They're a fun way to add a little sparkle to your smile without drilling!

Can you feel a tooth charm on your tooth?

Yes! You'll notice something new on your tooth at first, but most people get used to the feeling within a few days.

How long do tooth gems last?

Tooth gems can last anywhere from a few weeks to a year or more, depending on placement, oral hygiene, eating habits, and other individual factors. Longevity varies from person to person, and no specific duration is guaranteed.

How do I remove a tooth gem?

Tooth gems may eventually fall off on their own. We do not offer tooth gem removal services, but a qualified dental professional can assist with removal. We don't suggest attempting to remove a charm yourself.

Does getting a tooth gem hurt?

Tooth gem application is generally quick and does not involve drilling. While most clients experience little to no discomfort, temporary sensitivity or irritation is possible.

Can I still get my teeth professionally cleaned with a tooth gem?

Yes! You can continue visiting your dentist or dental hygienist for routine cleanings. Just let them know you have a tooth gem so they can work around it as appropriate.

Can I get a tooth gem on my crown or veneer?

No. Tooth charms are only applied to natural tooth enamel, not crowns, veneers, implants, or other artificial tooth surfaces.

What kind of crystals do you use for tooth gems?

We offer a selection of decorative crystals in different shapes, sizes, and styles, along with solid gold tooth charms. Our technicians can help you choose a design to complement your smile.

Can I get a tooth gem if I’m under 18 with parental permission?

Yes! Clients under 18 must have parental or legal guardian consent. A parent or guardian must be present with proper identification and sign our consent form before the service.

Can I get a tooth gem if I wear Invisalign or a retainer?

Tooth gems are generally not recommended for clients wearing clear aligners or plastic retainers, as the charm may interfere with their fit. If you wear a wire retainer, please bring it to your appointment so we can assess placement. We recommend checking with your orthodontist before application.

Can I get a tooth gem after teeth whitening?

We recommend waiting at least 14 days after professional teeth whitening before getting a tooth gem. Please let your technician know about any recent dental treatments before your appointment.

Can I brush my teeth normally with a tooth gem?

Yes! Good oral hygiene is important. Avoid brushing directly over your charm for the first 12 hours and avoid using an electric toothbrush directly over it for the first 48 hours. After that, resume your regular brushing routine, gently cleaning around the charm to prevent plaque buildup.

Can tooth gems damage your teeth?

Tooth gems are applied without drilling. Proper application by a trained technician, good oral hygiene, and removal by a dental professional can help minimize the risk of enamel damage.

Are there any food restrictions after getting a tooth gem?

For the first 2 hours, avoid eating or drinking anything other than water. We also recommend avoiding hard foods, candies, and alcohol for the first 12 hours. Afterward, you can return to your normal diet, taking care not to bite directly into hard foods with your charm.
